Curtain. 2007   Ipod, amplifier, cigarette foil, speakers. (w/ Die Die Deneuve)

Curtain is an audio work that utilizes a quilted foil curtain as an energized stereo component.  Upon the discovery that electrostatic energy could travel through a discarded cigarette foil during a studio experiment, minimalist /noise trio Die Die Deneuve were approached to create a ‘bridge’ track  to channel energy across a more expansive surface.

Constructed from hundreds of collected cigarette foils, Curtain acts as a conductor of sound, radiating energy across it’s surface, completing the connection between active amp and passive speakers. A bass tube above forces air across the surface, causing the work to ripple and undulate as bass notes sound.

For the bridge track Die Die Deneuve were recorded in the their London studio. Tuning up and testing levels, tone, and instrumentation, the tracks capture of verbal and instrumental cues, before breaking before breaking into clashes of noise.
